When Rodeo cowboys compete in bareback, they use a special rigging that enables them to ride. A single handhold is attached to the cinch rigging and tied around the bronc's belly. Touching the bronc with the other hand during the 8-second ride is an immediate disqualificaton. This cowboy holds the rigging firmly, chaps flying, while his other arm is stretched over his now bare head. He's going to survive this ride. His hat, however, is on the floor of the area, under the horse's rear hoof.
