Queenie (for Queen of the Henhouse) is my first venture into true abstraction. The marble stone sat in my garage for several years waiting for inspiration. After I had finished my polar bear stone carving (Playful), I was in need of a new stone and spotted a white stone in the garage. I picked it up, turned it around and discovered its planes looked somewhat like a stylized chicken. So with nothing to lose, took out the grinder and began to shape the body, leaving the head for hand tools. I purposely did not stylize the head, as I wanted it to stand out from the body. The pure white marble is mounted in stark comparison on a pure black piece of marble. Queenie demands to be touched. Go ahead.
