about this piece...

This is the case where the stone told me what I had to do. A bump on the stone's front surface quickly became a nose, and my imagination took it from there to create a legend of sorts. The coloration of the stone with its greens and yellows portrayed a sadness found with loss of a loved one. Thus came the face of a mourning woman carved in an Inuit style. The slope on the reverse side quickly became the fur parker of her lost seal-hunter husband, symbolized by the peaceful, bronze death mask.
