It all started with my adoption to Raymond and Colleen Noyes. I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and shipped out to the farmlands of Southwestern Minnesota. I do not know my birth surname but my adopted one was no yes. It was the start of the mighty yin yang in my life. Perhaps it started before this but I cannot account for that. My mentor in high school was Gehrhart Meidt. He was my football coach and my choir director. I went on to college to study physics and engineering but was quickly caught by the fine arts department where I didn't quite fit as a sculptor but as a designer who made things. My graduate studies were in architecture where I was seen as more of a sculptor than an architect. My first job was in a large firm called BWBR and I was their token "long haired" guy. My first collegiate teaching job was at the University of Minnesota in the Design Housing and Apparel Department where I taught building technology and construction to interior design students. I've taught painting and typography at Augsburg College and started a college called Vesper, which offers one degree: a hybridized degree of fine art and architecture. Though you can't see the salt and pepper of my premature grey hair, you certainly can get the picture. I was born into and thrive about the no yes of one thing playing against another. The left brain/right brain dialectic. The oscillation of one perspective looking in upon another. The no yes of it all. And the poetic glue that holds it all together.
