I have loved art since I was in grade school, scribbling cartoon sketches of traveling storks and stylish potbelly pigs. I attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design way back in the 1980s. In the Fall of 2010, I returned to MCAD to finish my degree. My anticipated graduation date is May, 2013.
My life has been steeped in art, though mostly tangentially and recreationally rather than professionally. I have worn many hats, proverbially speaking, embarked on so many different journeys in countless venues and contexts, and I continue to espouse a passion for life and life-long learning. I started out studying sculpture, then moved into retail management, then into warehousing, to keep the bills paid. I became a trained chef, helped open up a couple restaurants, created a positive culinary experience for patients with eating disorders, then moved back to warehousing, this time as a manager. I have a wonderful wife with two awesome kids. I returned to MCAD because I believe that learning is an age-old process with parameters that should not be defined by age.
I have a sense of humor that some may regard as quirky or just plain bizarre, but my friends have stuck with me—many for decades—and my wife, too, so that's got to be a good sign. I enjoy traveling, camping and spending time with my wife, son and daughter. I love cooking gourmet meals but I also love mac 'n' cheese. The backyard of my Minneapolis home is tiny, but I have managed to parcel out some strips of soil for a garden. I love the beauty of all that is unadulterated, from little kids to animals to organic soil.
I recently have converted my small one-car garage into a working studio. It allows me to stay close to my family, yet work separately in space that is my own without traveling too far from home.
I am pleased to feel like I am part of something bigger than—well, just bigger than any one life, which the modern world keeps insisting we must capture in just a couple paragraphs……..
Peace.
