As I construct each creature, its history develops in my imagination as well. For each one I write about his or her evolutionary idiosyncrasies, the history of his excavation, and the controversies surrounding his discovery. Within that history and the creature's appearance an anatomical integrity is present. My creatures conform to the reality of scientific knowledge and, perhaps most importantly, contain an element of humor and fantasy. As I begin each piece I am aware that it will certainly change. As I work I discover new implications of form. These implied forms nurture one another to create a finished work that is often quite different from the original version. My art is evolving.
